I have recently discovered a new salad craze that is very gradually
making its way across our tables. So let’s have a look at what’s in this tasty
treat and why it would be a worthwhile addition to a salad.
The best way to prepare popcorn, is to pop the kernels with as little
oil or butter as possible, ideally with a tablespoon of olive oil. Once your
corn has popped slightly sprinkle it with salt and pepper and even a bit of
smoked paprika. Add it to your salad just before serving to prevent it from
becoming horribly soggy... well, unless you like that kind of thing.
Popcorn is incredibly low in fat and really is an ideal snack for those
watching their waist lines. In a 100 gram serving over 50% is fibre and less
than a quarter are carbs. It is also a source of potassium, iron, Vitamin B-6
and magnesium, making it a great snack to give you a boost when feeling a bit
run down.
A tasty in between meals snack, for those who like savoury nibbles, and
who may be a little tired of carrot sticks and celery, would be a mix of
peanuts and pop corn and throwing some pop corn into your green salad
definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
